Today is Friday, June 6th, Susan's 12th day at Shriner's. Here she indulges in a burger and fries for her end of the week lunch. Today Susan went to the playroom for awhile and impressed everyone with her knitting skills. She has almost finished her second scarf. (A light one for the few cooler months in Uganda.) Susan is scheduled to have her stints removed on Tuesday, and we will know more about her discharge then. She is hoping to go home to Malden, even on crutches, next week.

It's Wednesday night and Susan proudly displays the homework she has been working on. Today's lesson was handwriting with a little math thrown in.

School at Shriner's

This is Tuesday, June 3rd. Here are John, Susan and her teacher, Kristen. This was the first time Susan ever used a computer and she mastered the mouse very quickly. Here she is practicing her English by clicking over a picture and then hearing the word. Her vocabulary is growing everyday.

Monday Night

Today is Monday, the start of the second week. Susan's leg grafts were checked today and she is healing well. She was able to get into her wheelchair and out of her room for much of the afternoon and then rested for the evening . Here she is watching "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman," and just about to eat dinner. Maybe not the best timing.

Susan and Sparkle

On Saturday, Susan went out to the playroom where she met two live clowns for the first time. She hung out with Sparkle and Jimbo and a few of the other children at Shriner's. The kids loved the magic, and Susan figured out a trick. Thank you to Sparkle and Jimbo.

Time for Bed

This is Friday night, the 4th night since her surgery. Susan is on track and recovering well. Always in good spirits, even when in pain. She is hoping to get to the playroom a little this weekend.

First Day in a Wheelchair

This was Susan's first time out of bed. She now has her permit to drive. She has been getting in and out of bed a few times a day, for a few minutes at a time. The donor site is still very sore but she likes to sit in the chair and roll around the room every now and then. And of course, she is happy.
